Sneak Peak

I have been itching to make a fall color throw for years.  The design just never quite got there, never quite hit on what it should be, other than in pretty fall colors.

The design finally fell into place in my mind, it needed to be a Granny Rectangle.  I have been wanting to make a throw with the A Better Granny Rectangle technique, and have not done that.  Two birds and all that…

Another way to get those itchy fingers actually to work is to get a new crochet hook, this one is a Furl’s Odyssey.  So far, I am loving it.  Nicely made.  They do need to put the size on it somewhere though, that is a necessity it is lacking.  Since I only have the one, I think it will be okay.  No, it won’t, I will forget.  It is size H, there, it is here for posterity and absentmindedness (like I will remember where, exactly I posted the size!!).

And now I have actually started!  I think I have it to a pleasing (to me) proportion for a throw.  I will post the actual pattern at a future time.  For now, a photo will have to do.

Sampler Stripe Blanket

These kinds of blankets are so interesting to look at, and would be so interesting to make!  No getting bored with doing the same stitch over and over.  This one at HaakmaarRaak! is especially beautiful I think, very neatly done and the use of gray really sets off the colors… Maybe a sampler should be my next blanket (at least until I see the next beautiful crochet blanket on the internet!)

Stitch: Simple Subtle Texture

I don’t have a photo of my sample yet, but wanted to jot it down quick and make a quick diagram before I forget what I did on the edges…nice texture for a dishcloth or maybe a throw.  I have seen this before, so not my invention.  Might be an interesting scarf with a bulky yarn…

Used worsted weight and H hook, I might like a larger hook with it for a throw, it is a bit looser.

(since this was quickly jotted down, can not attest to it’s accuracy)

ch an even number (so you end up with an odd number of stitches).
1 – sc in 2nd ch from hook, {dc in next st, sc in next st} continue across, ending with sc in last.  ch 3 (counts as dc), turn.
2 – sc in top of 2nd st, dc in next across, {sc in next st, dc in next} across.  ending with dc. ch1, turn.
3 – sc in first st, repeating row 1
4 – repeat row 2
and so on….

added 8/13/15:  Doing the same thing but replacing the dc’s with trc’s gives a more dramatic texture.

Grandmother’s Flower Garden Throw Started

Most people would choose to do a Grandmother’s Flower Garden throw in the beautiful colors that flowers typically come in.  I love those colorful throws and blankets,  but I also wanted to coordinate with my neutral living room décor.  So I had to go a different way.
